ABOUT ALFORJA
Alforja is a small, traditional Catalan village set in the foothills of the Montsant and Prades mountains, just inland from the Costa Daurada. Surrounded by pine forest, olive groves and limestone ridges, it offers a peaceful and authentic base for anyone wanting to experience rural Catalonia.
Life here is unhurried and local. Days begin with fresh bread and coffee, and often end with a quiet stroll through the narrow streets as the light fades over the hills.
THE VILLAGE & ATMOSPHERE
Alforja has a warm, lived-in feel, with historic stone buildings, small balconies and winding streets that reflect its medieval roots. It has avoided mass tourism, which makes it feel genuine and welcoming rather than commercial.
The main square is the social heart of the village – a place to stop for a coffee, meet neighbours, or sit in the shade on a warm afternoon.
WHEN TO VISIT
Alforja has a Mediterranean climate:
Spring & Autumn – best balance of temperatures for climbing and hiking.
Summer – hot but quiet, with easy access to the coast.
Winter – generally mild, prime climbing sending cons.

Restaurant Cal Pepe - A popular local restaurant serving traditional Catalan and Spanish dishes in a relaxed, village atmosphere.
Bar Cochero - A casual village bar, ideal for coffee, snacks and a quick drink with locals.
El Parc Bar Pàdel Tennis - A laid-back bar next to the sports area, perfect for a drink or light bite before or after activities.

Cooperativa Agrícola - A small local agricultural cooperative shop selling regional wines, olive oil and seasonal products (make sure you buy some olive oil!)
Supermercat SPAR - The main village supermarket with a good range of everyday groceries and household essentials.
Forn de Pa Llopis - A traditional bakery producing fresh bread, pastries and baked goods daily.
Carnisseria Xarcuteria Rosalia - A local butcher and delicatessen known for fresh meats and traditional Catalan charcuterie.

La Farmàcia d’Alforja - The village pharmacy, providing basic medications, health products and advice.

Parc Infantil - A small children’s playground, ideal for families and relaxed outdoor time.
Piscina Municipal d’Alforja - The municipal outdoor swimming pool, open seasonally in summer.
Pàdel Courts - Outdoor padel courts available for hire, located near the sports area.

🚗 Directions - It's best to use Waze. Also drive out using the directions above to use the tunnel to get out of Alforja. Alforja is mainly a one way system, but Google Maps doesn't reflect this. No one needs the stress of getting stuck in the middle of the village on narrow roads!
